In the Pit: Theme, Sound and Animation

You load into a scene of stunning hot rods, with a few in the background getting a tune-up to finish the race faster. The pit crew has to be careful, because wheels and tyres roll off to the left whenever they appear, which here is a good thing.

The rock n’ roll soundtrack suits the theme and gives the game character, and the sound effects are exactly what you would expect from the genre. There is little animation in the background, so most of it happens in-game: winning symbols roar to life to the sound of a revving engine.

It is a different kind of game for Relax Gaming, and the fresh idea works.

Symbols and Wheelspin Wilds

• High-paying symbols: four luxury cars, in blue, green, red or purple paint.
• Low-paying symbols: the card suits, diamonds, hearts, clubs and spades.
• Wheelspin Wild: the golden wheel rolls off the reels to the left, and any hot rod symbol it rolls over becomes a Wild. If several Wilds roll over the same symbol, it gains +1 to its multiplier. Wilds substitute for any common icon.
• Scatter: the checkered flag. Three on reels 2, 3 and 4 trigger the bonus spins.

Grid, RTP and Volatility

This online slot is played on 5 reels and 4 rows with 30 fixed paylines. The volatility is rated high, and the highest win you can reach is 25,000x the bet.

Bonus Spins and Super Bonus Spins

Land 3 Scatters in a single spin and the bonus spins begin. Wheelspin Wilds that land are riveted in place and trigger their feature on every remaining spin.

If Nitro Wilds land on reels 1 and 5 along with Scatters on reels 2, 3 and 4, Super Bonus Spins are activated. Wheelspin Wilds again become sticky, but the multiplier applies more often. The highest a multiplier can grow is 5x. That is the top feature multiplier, not the maximum win.

Our Verdict

Hot Rod Racers is fun and unusual, with a Wheelspin Wild mechanic that gives the bonus rounds some drama. Expect high volatility, and try it for fun first before playing for real money.
