The Toro series has been one of ELK Studios’ most popular franchises. Toro’s nemesis, Diaz, decided to venture off in search of some unbelievable treasures and he sure found them. Upon touching the Stone Heart artefact he realised he had made a huge mistake! Turning to the only one that he knew could help him return the Stone Heart of Mount Fuji, Diaz called out to his bitter rival, Toro! Together, they have made their trip to Japan where they aim to return the misbegotten item and hopefully set things right once more.
Now, the duo finds themselves in a new, unfamiliar, land. Will they be able to return what was stolen or will the soul of the Shogun defend itself? These will have to be answered by jumping into the game itself!
Read on as we discuss all of the symbols, gameplay mechanics, betting options, and bonus features that are found throughout this foreign country.
Across An Ocean
The game starts with a highly detailed cinematic. In this opening video, we see the build-up to our story, all of which is animated beautifully. The way that this online casino entertainment provider still manages to inject comedy into their games even after so many entries is astounding. The narrator is passionate in his telling of the story and wants every aspect of it to be accurate.
Looking at the game itself, it’s a little disappointing that the background doesn’t have any of the wonderful animations that we just witnessed with the introduction. A few, subtle, animations would’ve gone a long way to make this title feel more alive and keep up the standard set by the opening video.
Animation gripes aside, the design team did a wonderful job creating the visuals for this online release. The colours are bright and paint a very vivid picture. The buildings are detailed and you can see how everyone is living together with nature.
The audio is what you might expect from a title set during a Shogunate Japan. There are wind and percussion instruments that fill the air with their classical tune. Light chants can be heard occasionally which further pushes the narrative.
If you’re a fan of games with this setting, or you like keeping up to speed with Toro and his adventures, you should definitely give this game a go when visiting your favourite online casino that stocks ELK Studio titles.
Winding Dragon & Charging Bull
There are ten icons that can appear and disappear while playing this game. Seven of these symbols are common and will pay out according to the game’s paytable should a matching cluster appear. The remaining three images are unique and will interact with one another or alter the general gameplay should they appear.
We’ll start with the low-paying images. These are represented by three different dragon tiles. You should expect to see a Blue Dragon, a Green Dragon, and a Red Dragon appearing on the grid fairly frequently. The Red Dragon is the image with the highest value from this group.
Moving on to the high-paying images, these are represented by a Throwing Star, a Bladed Fan, a Lotus Flower, and the Shogun. The Shogun is the highest-paying common icon in the game so pay attention to the grid whenever he makes an appearance.
Diaz has taken his trip to Japan seriously and has kitted himself out in ninja gear. We can no longer call him a matador, we’ll now have to refer to him as a ninja-dor! If 2 or more of these symbols appear on the grid during a single spin, the Matador Respin will occur.
Wilds in this game are generated for each winning cascade that occurs. The Wild will substitute for any other common image in the game, allowing you to build winning combinations with ease or extend already existing ones. There is also a unique Toro Walking Wild which will walk across the grid when it appears and has a special interaction with the Ninja-dor symbol that fans of the series will surely pick up on.
Finally, we have the Stone Heart representing the Scatter. If three of these appear during a single drop, you will trigger the bonus game.
The Heart Of Mount Fuji
The grid on which the symbols will be landing has an initial 5-reel 4-row setup but with each subsequent cascade, the reels which housed the winning symbols will get smaller allowing for more images to appear. Eventually, the grid could potentially reach 5 reels and 10 rows.
The RTP is very low, sitting at 94%. The volatility with which you’ll be playing has been clocked in at medium to high.
Bets that can be placed are able to range from 0.20 – 100 coins per spin with the highest achievable win being 25,000x the bet.
The Shoguns Power
After each and every win the matching symbols will be removed from the grid and new ones will fall into their place. Wilds will form when the icons are removed and the reels on which the winning symbols were on will become smaller allowing for more icons.
Old habits die hard, should a Toro Walking Wild and a Matador symbol appear on the same drop, Toro will charge at the Matador leaving Wilds in his path.
If a winning combination is able to connect the leftmost and rightmost reels, it will pay both ways.
Occasionally, before the reels stop spinning, a mysterious force will compress the reels allowing them to hold more symbols than normal. Should each reel obtain 10 rows, the Shogun Mode feature will trigger. During Shogun Mode, all low-paying images are removed.
3 Scatters hitting the grid at once will activate the Bonus Game. Should 3 Scatters appear during the Shogun Mode, the Shogun Bonus can activate. During the Bonus Game, any Scatters that land will increase the progressive multiplier.
Different Place, Same Toro
If you’d like to continue with Toro and Diaz’s journey, you’ll be able to do so at most online casinos. We suggest trying the game out for fun first before committing any real cash to it so that you can get a feel for the relatively low RTP rate.
