A Town In Turmoil
You don’t have to look very hard to see that the town of Phoenix is not in a good way. The mayor has let the town fall into disarray while he pockets all of the wealth. There is an ominous air that surrounds the area as well, a thick fog conceals some of the twisted tree branches, candles burn in skull shaped containers, and tombstones seem to be the decoration of choice.
The background does a good job setting up the overall atmosphere of this title but unfortunately, the music does little to follow up on this. At best, the tunes that play will excite you for a brief moment, but most of the time it feels slightly out of place and forgettable. The same can be said for the sound effects, once you’ve heard them once, you’ve heard them for the entire experience.
The animations are good, the movements of the special symbols are great, and everything is smooth and plays out exactly as it should. It’s disappointing then that there aren’t many background animations to speak of. Lights slowly fade and brighten again and thin wisps of fog can occasionally be seen floating across the screen and that’s it.
The game has an interesting premise, one that hasn’t been fully recognised yet. It’s a little odd seeing this come from ELK Studios, they usually make titles that are more in depth than this. This game will certainly stand out amongst the rest of their slot library but probably not for the best reasons.
People Of The Town
There are a few things to see while staying in the area. We’ll cover all of them here.
To start, we have low-paying icons. These are represented by playing card royals, you should expect to see J, Q, K, and A appearing on the grid often. The A is the most valuable symbol of the group.
Next up we have the high-paying images. These are all represented by some folks that live in the town. You’ll want to keep an eye out for the bard, the mayor’s wife, and the mayor himself. Since the mayor has all of the town’s wealth, he is worth the most out of the batch.
There are two different types of Wild in this game represented by the Phoenix and the Grim Reaper. Both of them will substitute for all common icons, allowing you to build winning combos with easier or start entirely new ones. Getting to the specifics of each, the Phoenix Wild can jump around the entire grid where as the Reaper Wild walks along a single row. There is a special feature that triggers should these two land on the grid at the same time, we’ll cover this in just a bit.
A stone phoenix represents the Bonus symbol in this game. By hitting at least three of them during a single spin, you will trigger the bonus gameplay feature.
Corruption In The Town

There are a minimum of 243 ways to win, on random occasions a tile will be split allowing for multiple of the same symbol to land on that single tile, increasing the total ways to win, with the highest number of win ways capped at 1,000,000. A Devilish Deal
The Sudden Death feature can trigger randomly at any point. When this happens, a minimum of 1 tile will be slashed, splitting the tile into 2 – 10 pieces. Any symbol that lands on this tile will be duplicated within that tile a number of times equal to the number displayed above it.
A Battle will occur when both the Phoenix and the Reaper land on the grid at the same time. The Battle can end in a few different ways. If you hit either 3, 4, or 5 Scatters during a single spin, you will activate the bonus gameplay feature. 3 Scatters will net you 6 bonus spins with 1 guaranteed Phoenix Wild, 4 Scatters will get you 8 bonus spins and 2 Phoenix Wilds, and finally, 5 Scatters will award you 10 bonus spins with 3 Phoenix Wilds.
During bonus spins, split tiles and Phoneix Wilds will last for the entire feature.
