Genie Jackpots is a five reel, twenty pay line progressive jackpot slot from UK-based developer Blueprint Gaming. This Arabian themed machine has received a fair amount of attention from the gaming press of late after an English gamer won $1.35m whilst playing the slot game.
The genie theme has been well implemented throughout, although the animation is a little choppy and the graphics lack the clarity and definition found in the latest Microgaming and NetEnt slots. The user interface feels a little clunky too, but it should be familiar enough for most players to get to grips with quickly.
Unfortunately, this is a game that will probably cause most players to look for the mute button within a very short period of time. There’s no background music, but a short melody does play each time you spin the reels. It’s chirpy, but quickly becomes repetitive and the genie speech samples do little to convince you to leave the sound enabled.
Genie Jackpots Features
The three wishes power spin feature may activate randomly during any spin, awarding one of the following:
- Genie Wilds + Re-spin – Converts one symbol into a genie wild before re-spinning the reels.
- Genie Wilds + Double – Adds a genie wild to the reels and doubles any resulting winning combinations.
- Infectious Monkey Wilds – All on-screen monkey wilds expand to cover surrounding symbols.
- Magic Carpet / Treasure Chest – Immediately triggers the respective bonus mode, no scatters required!
- Progressive – Awards the progressive jackpot.
Bonus symbols appear on reels one and three, but you’ll also need one of the following special symbols on the fifth reel in order to trigger a feature:
The screen switches out to show a number of flying carpets, each hiding either a bonus prize or one of a number of special symbols. The “Advance” symbol progresses you along the carpets and increases your win, whereas a “Collect” symbol will terminate the feature and pay out the prizes you have collected. If you find a “Big Money” symbol the game immediately awards you a huge payout of up to 1000x your stake.
The genie invites you into his cave where he will award you a mystery cash prize of up to 100x your total bet.
Like all progressive jackpot games, the overall RTP of Genie Jackpots is a little lower than average at just 94.29%. This percentage is calculated after a contribution from each spin has been added to the progressive pool, so you must decide if you are willing to trade those points for a chance at a life-changing win.
If you are a fan of progressive games then this isn’t a bad one to try, although the huge gulf between the maximum wins of the two main features will inevitably result in a lot of disappointment whenever the treasure chest lands on the reels, as opposed to the magic carpet.
