Coba – Online Slot By ELK Studios

Coba is a Mayan-themed cascading video slot from ELK Studios with 7 reels, a theoretical RTP of 95% and a maximum win of 25,000x your bet. Clusters of five or more matching symbols pay, and snakes slither across the grid to transform symbols and create multiplier Wilds. Read on for the specs, symbols and snake mechanics.

Beware if you have ophidiophobia, an extreme fear of snakes. This slot takes you to the ancient Mayan city of Coba, whose people worshipped Quetzalcoatl, the snake deity. According to the story, the slithering god sent thousands of snakes to protect the city. If enough offerings are made during a single drop, those scaly guardians make their way onto the reels, where they can work in your favour.

Coba Slot Specs

RTP is a theoretical, long-run figure that says nothing certain about a single session. Our guide explains what RTP means, and you can read more about slot volatility.

Theme, Graphics and Sound

When the game loads, a short cutscene shows the head of a snake appearing in front of you, ready to attack. It only produces two smaller snakes, which hints at the game’s unique feature.

Apart from the snake head on the right, there are no background animations. That hardly matters, because the artwork is strong: an ancient temple, lost to time, stares out of a dense forest. The music suits the theme and builds as the action picks up, and the sound effects help to pull you into the experience.

Ancient Mayan slots are almost as common as ancient Egyptian ones, so a new game needs something to stand out. The snakes do that here. It is worth a try if you think the theme has been played out.

Coba Symbols and Paytable

• Low-paying symbols: three stone medallions carved with a rabbit, a skull and a panther.
• High-paying symbols: gems, being an emerald, a sapphire and a ruby, plus a golden skull coin.
• Wild: a “W” medallion that substitutes for any common icon, which helps you build wins or start new ones. Wilds also come in a multiplier variation.

How Cascades and the Snake Meter Work

Coba is a cascading slot. Wins are decided by clusters that form when five or more matching symbols connect. Each time a win lands, the winning symbols are removed and added to the snake meter. The remaining symbols drop down to fill the gaps while new icons fall in, and cascades continue until no new win can be made.

Appeasing the Snake God

When the snake meter fills, a snake is released onto the grid. Snakes are walking clusters: as they slither around the reels they eat symbols and transform them into their chosen icon. They grow as they eat, so they can travel further.

As more wins land, the meter fills again. The game can release 1, 2, 3 or 6 snakes to transform the grid. Where two or more snakes cross, a x2 multiplier Wild is created, and if snakes cross there again the existing multiplier Wild is doubled.

A snake dies if it cannot find a matching symbol to eat or if it tries to eat itself. It is then removed from the grid, but the symbols it created stay in place.

Our Verdict on Coba

Coba is a polished, mechanic-led slot. The snake meter, walking snakes and multiplier Wilds give it a clear identity, and the 25,000x maximum win gives it real upside. Try it in demo mode first if you are unsure about the theme or the volatility.
