Planet of the Apes is a film-themed video slot from NetEnt, made in association with 20^th Century Fox Consumer Products. It is really two games in one, with a Rise play area and a Dawn play area, each a 5-reel, 3-row grid, and a theoretical RTP of 96.33%. Here is how the features work and where you can play it.

The slot is based on two films, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The franchise itself goes back to Pierre Boulle’s novel La Planète des Singes, published in 1963 and translated into English as Planet of the Apes, and it has produced many films since the 1968 movie adaptation.

RTP is a theoretical, long-run figure, so it says nothing certain about any single session. To see how it works, read what RTP means.

Two Play Areas: Rise and Dawn

Each play area has its own free spins, Bonus symbols, Scatter symbols, Wild substitutions, a stacked Wild feature, two bonus features and a Dual feature. The two sides are linked, so action in one area can carry over into the other.

Planet of the Apes Dual Play Areas

Dual Feature

The Dual feature can be triggered before a spin begins. When it is active, a different random symbol is chosen for each play area, and Wild and Scatter symbols cannot be chosen. The reels then contain only those two symbols, with the rest of the positions left blank. Symbols landing in their matching play area become sticky and another spin is awarded. Symbols landing in the other play area are transferred to the correct one if that position is free. The game keeps re-spinning until no new symbols land in either area.

Rise and Dawn Bonus Features

Rise Bonus: only appears in the Rise play area, and is triggered when the Rise Bonus symbol lands on the first reel. It is a coin win feature that pays for every human and ape in the play area, on top of any line wins.
Dawn Bonus: awarded when the Dawn Bonus symbol lands on the last reel in the Dawn play area. It turns every ape and human into the same symbol. The highest-paying symbol is chosen if there is a line win, otherwise a random symbol is chosen.
Stacked Wild: triggered when a reel is fully covered by Wilds in the Rise play area. The stack is then duplicated onto the same reel in the Dawn play area.

Free Spins in Rise and Dawn

Rise Free Spins: ten free spins are awarded when three or more Scatter symbols land anywhere in the Rise play area. Any Wilds that appear are collected and then, on the last free spin, randomly placed into the play area, which can lead to a big win.

Dawn Free Spins: fifteen free spins are awarded when three or more Scatter symbols land anywhere in the Dawn play area. During these spins three collect symbols fill matching meters: Multiplier, Extra Wild and Extra Free Spins. Each collect symbol fills its meter by one, and a full meter activates its feature.

The Extra Free Spins meter adds three extra free spins every time it is filled.
The Multiplier meter raises the win multiplier by one every time it is filled, up to a maximum of x5.
The Extra Wild meter turns one of the human symbols into an Extra Wild each time it is filled, for the rest of the free spins.

Our Verdict on Planet of the Apes

Whether or not you follow the films, this slot is worth some of your time. The two linked play areas and the meters in the Dawn free spins give it more going on than a typical 20-line slot, and the design is polished throughout.
