Planet of the Apes is a thrilling new video slot game that has just been released by NetEnt, in association with 20th Century Fox Consumer Products. The game is based on a science fiction franchise that began back in 1963 when French author Pierre Boulle published his novel La Planète des Singes. The book was translated into English as Planet of the Apes. Because of the huge popularity of the book and the subsequent movie adaption in 1968 the past fifty years have produced many movie sequels.

Planet of the Apes slot game is based on two recent movies: Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014).

Simon Hammon, Chief Product Officer of NetEnt, said: “Planet of the Apes is one of the most popular film franchises ever created and we are confident players around the globe will find our latest title just as immersive and exciting as the films.”

Planet of the Apes Slot Game Details

The slot game consists of two games in one, Rise and Dawn, each with 5-reels, 3-rows and 20-lines which are fixed. Each slot game has its own Free Spins, Bonus symbols, Scatter symbols, Wild substitutions, a stacked Wild feature, 2 Bonus features and a Dual feature.

Planet of the Apes Dual Play Areas

Dual Feature

The Dual Feature can be triggered before a spin begins and, when active, a different random symbol is chosen for each play area; Wild and Scatter symbols cannot be chosen. The reels will only contain these two symbols with the rest of reels being blank spaces. Symbols landing in the corresponding play area become sticky and another spin is awarded. Symbols landing in the other play area will be transferred over to the correct play area if that position is free.

The game re-spins until there are no more new symbols in either area.

Rise Bonus Feature

The Rise Bonus feature will only appear in the Rise play area and is triggered when the Rise Bonus symbol lands on the first reel. It is a coin win feature that awards the player for every human and ape in the play area. The coin win is paid in addition to any line wins.

Dawn Bonus Feature

The Dawn Bonus feature is awarded if the Dawn Bonus symbol lands on the last reel in the Dawn play area. This feature transforms all ape and human into the same symbol. The highest winning symbol is chosen if there is a line win otherwise a random symbol is chosen.

Stacked Wild Feature

The Stacked Wild feature is triggered when a reel is fully covered by Wilds in the Rise play area. This is then duplicated onto the same reel in the Dawn play area.

Rise Free Spins Feature

Ten free spins are awarded when three or more Scatter symbols land anywhere in the Rise play area. Any Wild symbols that appear are collected and then, on the last free spin, randomly placed into the play area resulting in a potential huge win.

Dawn Free Spins

Fifteen free spins are awarded when three or more Scatter symbols land anywhere in the Dawn play area activating the Dawn Free Spins feature. During these free spins there are three different collect symbols that activate a corresponding meter: Multiplier, Extra Wild and Extra Free Spins. Each time a collect symbol lands on the reels it fills the corresponding meter by one. When a meter is full it activates a feature.

  • Extra Free Spins meter activates three extra free spins every time it is filled.
  • Multiplier meter increases the win multiplier by one every time it is filled, up to a maximum of x5 multiplier.
  • Extra Wild meter will turn one of the human symbols into an Extra Wild symbol each time it is filled for the remainder of the free spins.

Conclusion

Whether you’re a fan of the Planet of the Apes or not this video slot game is worthy of some of your play time. The creativity and quality of the game design is incredible, and I feel NetEnt has really done the whole Planet of the Apes franchise proud.

The theoretical return to player for this game is 96.33%.
