In the age of Pharaohs and pyramids, two deities hide in the darkness, the Shadow Gods. Ancient Egypt is a fairly common theme among video slot designers and understandably so, it’s an era veiled in mystery and intrigue. Has RealTime Gaming done enough to make this title stand out above the rest? Let’s take a look.

The theme of this title is ancient Egypt but it focuses mainly around two Egyptian gods namely Horus, the Egyptian god of the sky, and Anubis, the Egyptian god of the afterlife. The icons in the game reflect this theme, with images such as scarabs, snakes and even Cleopatra herself making an appearance. The animation quality of the two deities is absolutely superb.

The background music to this title is very fitting for its theme, bringing life to the still sandy evening, it’s powerful as one would expect when representing ancient deities. The sound effects on winning spins are sharp and pronounced, letting you know that you’ve won. The option to mute either the soundtrack, sound effects or both is present should you grow tired of them.

The game is pretty well optimised for players on either desktop or mobile browsers, there’s no need to download or install a thing.

Shadow Gods Betting Options & Functions

This title uses a standard 5 reel, 3 row grid and allows for a substantial 50 paylines. Betting options vary between 1 line and 0.04 per line to 50 lines and 4 per line meaning you are free to craft your strategy as you like.

The game makes use of both a Wild and a Scatter symbol. The Wild symbol is split between Horus and Anubis and only appear on reels 2 and 4 respectively and substitute for any icon except for Scatters and Coins. Should Horus or Anubis make an appearance on their reels, they will nudge to cover that reel. Should they both decide to descend to their reels on a single spin, 6 bonus games are awarded.

The Scatter symbol is represented by a Pharos mask and should 3 or more of them appear on the grid during a main spin, the user is prompted to make a decision between either Wild Reels or Treasure Spins.

There is a third special icon, the wadjet, these are coins that can appear during spins. Should 6 or more of these coins land on the grid, 3 bonus spins are awarded. This feature can even trigger during the bonus games granted from the Wild or Scatter symbols.

Conclusion

While Shadow Gods has some incredible visuals in terms of art, animation and graphics and a solid soundtrack, it doesn’t do enough to set itself apart from the other ancient Egyptian themed games available. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing however, considering it has a rather generous amount of paylines and avenues in which to earn bonus spins and games, it more than makes up for its generic setting.

Anyone that is a fan of this particular theme should definitely give this one a go.
