Ancient Greece is always a fun time period to explore. Legends and myths cloud every doubt, mythological creatures stalk every story and mighty heroes fighting on behalf of the gods save the day.
The architecture of ancient Greece is something that should stand out in everyone’s mind when thinking about the time period, and for good reason, it’s iconic. So when you load into this game from RTG you’ll immediately notice the pillars on either side, supporting the grid that you play on.
There are many games out there that are set in this period so let’s have a look and see if RealTime Gaming stepped up to the plate and hit this one out of the park.
Theme and Symbols
Right away, after you load into the game, after you take in the visuals you’ll notice that the backtrack sort of fades away into the background. Depending on whether or not you enjoy the music that comes along with video slots can be a good or a bad thing. Although when you’re trying to stand out above the rest a memorable soundtrack is quite important.
The sound effects are also a bit on the weak side. The chime that plays on a winning spin is nice and attention grabbing but everything else doesn’t really make an impact.
The art style is nice, bordering on realistic so needless to say the graphics are incredibly pretty.
Animations are smooth and nothing is too jarring making this title very easy on the eyes.
As you’d expect from a game set in this time period the icons all reflect figures from ancient Greece.
There is a Wild symbol that is represented by a soldier’s shield. The wild can substitute for any other symbol in the game except for the Scatter symbol. Should three or more appear on the grid you’ll be rewarded with wild bonus spins.
The Scatter symbol is represented by a shield and swords with the games title written over it. Should three or more of these appear on the grid you’ll be given bonus spins where winnings are doubled.
Betting Options and Features
The game is your standard fare 5 reel, 3 row video slot with 20 pay lines for you to win on.
The game features a progressive jackpot system where you can win either the minor, major or both of the progressive jackpots. Progressive jackpot wins are added to other wins.
As stated before, the setting of ancient Greece is a fun and potentially interesting one provided that the developer picks up the theme and runs with it.
Unfortunately that isn’t the case with Achilles Deluxe. The pretty visuals alone aren’t enough to carry this title across the finish line. The extremely low key audio and the fairly bland mini-games make this a fairly forgettable experience.
The game is a solid video slot but if you’re looking for something that does more than just scratch the surface then this isn’t the game for you.
