Gold Rush – Online Slot By Habanero Systems

Gold Rush is a mining-themed video slot from Habanero Systems on a 5-reel, 3-row grid with 25 fixed paylines and a theoretical RTP of 96%. Dynamite Scatters trigger bonus spins with a mine collapse, and a progressive jackpot element can be won at the end of any spin.

Working in a mine is dangerous: cave-ins, your own equipment and bandits that want to steal your day’s haul. All three feature in Gold Rush, and the sections below cover the symbols, mechanics, features and bet options.

Gold Rush Specs

RTP is a theoretical, long-run figure, so it says nothing certain about any single session. Read what RTP means for more. Some games come in more than one RTP version, so check the info screen before you play.

Theme, Graphics and Sound

The theme is mining. The game plays out mostly outside the mine, with the entrance just to the left, and when the bonus feature triggers you move inside the mine where things get a little crazy.

The animations are very basic. There are no background animations on either screen, and icons simply pop out of the grid and spin on winning combinations. The big win screen flashing is the only real animation.

The music fits the theme and gives a sense of adventure, but it loops quickly, so you may want to mute it after a while. The sound effects are fine and help you follow the game.

Gold Rush has not aged well in presentation. Functionally there is nothing wrong with it, but if the look and feel of a game matters to you, you may struggle to get into this one.

Symbols and Paytable

Twelve symbols make up the reels: ten common paying icons and two specials.

The paying symbols are a Lantern, a Pickaxe, a Sifting Pan, a Dog, a Barrel, a Minecart, a Donkey, a Bandit, a Miner and the Mine Entrance. The Mine Entrance is the highest-paying common icon.

• Wild: the Gold Nugget substitutes for any common icon.
• Scatter: the Bundle of Dynamite. Landing 3 to 5 of them anywhere on the grid in a single spin triggers the bonus feature.

Bets, Paylines and Volatility

Gold Rush has a theoretical payout of 96% and medium volatility. You are trying to land winning combinations on the 25 fixed paylines, and coin values range from 0.01 to 20.

Cave In Bonus Spins and Jackpot

Landing 3, 4 or 5 Scatters anywhere on the grid in a single spin awards 10, 12 or 15 bonus spins respectively. On every spin of the feature there is a chance for the mine to collapse. When that happens, between 3 and 15 matching symbols appear on the grid before the reels stop spinning. A collapse is certain on the last bonus spin.

There is also a progressive jackpot element that can be won at the end of any spin.

Our Verdict

The presentation is dated, but the mechanics are solid. If you can look past the graphics, the Cave In bonus spins make Gold Rush worth a try.
