Taco Fury XXXtreme is a zombie-themed video slot from NetEnt on a 5-reel, 3-row grid with 9 fixed paylines and a theoretical RTP of 96.05%. Wilds explode across the reels with multipliers of up to x5, and you can pay to trigger the feature on demand.

The world has ended, the zombies have risen, and one group of them has turned a van into a taco truck built to survive the apocalypse. It is absurd, and that is the point. Here are the specs, symbols and features before you play.

Theme, Graphics and Sound

The setting is a wasteland. Smoke stacks rise from raging fires, ruined buildings crumble around the van and a Ferris wheel turns slowly in the background. There is more world-building here than you might expect from a game about post-apocalyptic zombie tacos.

The van’s radio plays rock n’ roll that suits the punk theme, and the sound effects are clear enough that you can follow the game by ear. The animations, in the game and in the background, are a highlight.

Symbols and Paytable

There are eleven symbols, ten common ones and one special. Common symbols pay when they form a matching combination on an active payline.

Low pays: nacho chips shaped as 10, J, Q, K and A with cheese melted on top. The K and A pay most in this group.
Medium pays: the menu items, a Foot in a Shoe, Dentures in a Cup, a Spiked Rolling Pin and an Eye in a Bottle. The Eye is the highest of these.
High pay: the Zombie Chef, the highest-paying common symbol.
Wild: the Taco. It appears only on reels 2, 3 and 4 and substitutes for any common symbol.

Grid, Paylines, RTP and Bets

The game uses 5 reels and 3 rows with 9 fixed paylines. The RTP is 96.05% and the volatility is low. Bets range from 0.01 to 10, and the highest achievable win is 533x the bet.

Wild Explosion Feature

On random spins, one of three symbols can appear above a reel: horizontal arrows, vertical arrows or star-shaped arrows. If a Wild lands on a reel with one of these above it, the Wild Explosion triggers:

Horizontal: turns the positions to the left and right of the Wild into Wilds.
Vertical: turns the positions above and below the Wild into Wilds.
Star: turns 2 to 3 random positions into Wilds.

If a Wild covers another Wild during the explosion, the covered Wild gains a multiplier of up to x5. When the feature triggers, the Wilds are locked in place and you get a re-spin.

XXXtreme Spins

At any time you can buy XXXtreme Spins to force 1 or 2 Wild Explosions on your next spin. One Wild Explosion costs 20x the bet and two cost 60x the bet. Those are the prices of the option, not prizes.

Our Verdict

Taco Fury XXXtreme is a quirky, low-volatility slot with strong visuals. The Wild Explosion is its only real feature, so it can feel repetitive after a while, but the buy-in option adds some control.
