LiveScore Group Fully Acquires Cape Town-Based Wonderlabz
Nov 19, 2023
Wonderlabz, a South African development and design team based in Cape Town, has been fully acquired by LiveScore Group, a collective of LiveScore, LiveScore Bet, and Virgin Bet. What this acquisition means for the Group is accelerated turnaround time on developments and projects as well as securing a foothold within the African market.
Who Are LiveScore Group?
As we mentioned above, LiveScore Group is a collective of three other entities that all revolve around the same premise, live sports score tracking and betting. They strive to combine the worlds of sports media and sports betting into a single entity.
They have offices all over the world including locations such as the United Kingdom, Gibraltar, Malta, Austria, Nigeria, and Ireland, so it makes sense that they would seek to expand into other territories as well.
What’s interesting to note is that the most prolific jurisdiction for sports betting is Curacao.
How Will Wonderlabz Plug-In?
LiveScore Group had already been investing in about 25% of the business, the Group pushed the investment to 100% in order to acquire Wonderlabz. Since the two parties had already been working somewhat closely, the integration of Wonderlabz is immediate and adds over 100 people to the Group’s portfolio.
With its world-renowned development credentials that focus on its Lithium PAM and back-office platform as well as the incredible talent on display, they will play a major part in evolving the app and digital platforms of the Collective, almost as their own in-house development team.
Timing Is Everything
Just a year prior to this acquisition, LiveScore Group invested £50 million into the Swiss-based media and tech firm Ringier AG. The Group showed no signs of slowing down as they sped up the rate at which they expanded globally.
What Do The Key Players Have To Say?
CEO of LiveScore Group, Sam Sadi, had this to say about the agreement: “I’m thrilled to announce our acquisition of Wonderlabz, one of the most exciting businesses in the global software development space. We have grown our relationship with the fantastic people and experts at Wonderlabz over many years, and their stand-out Lithium PAM platform has played a critical role in the ongoing success of our industry-leading convergence strategy.
I’m personally excited to work even closer with the team in Cape Town to help continue to develop a world-class tech hub in the area, one which increases the technical capability of our business and will fuel the potential for further growth. Welcome to the LiveScore Group family, Wonderlabz.”
Ben Johansen, the CEO of Wonderlabz, added: “This is a hugely exciting day for Wonderlabz, as we officially join the pioneering LiveScore Group family. Over recent years we have built an outstanding business centred on world-class software development talent, working with the likes of LiveScore Group to develop industry-leading tech solutions.
There is no doubt that in LiveScore Group, we join one of the most forward-thinking and innovative businesses in the sports media and betting worlds. I cannot wait for our people to continue playing a key role in what comes next.
